Public Workshops are our way of opening the doors of African historic cities to wider audiences-students, teachers, local residents, and international visitors-through accessible, expert‑led learning. These sessions transform preservation from a specialized field into a shared civic and educational experience.

We design workshops around concrete questions and places: How did a particular city grow around its walls, markets, or waterfronts? What building techniques have kept its houses standing for centuries? How can young people document their own streets as heritage? Each program combines illustrated talks with interactive components such as guided walks, hands‑on conservation demonstrations, or group mapping exercises.

Our facilitators include historians, archaeologists, planners, and local knowledge holders who present material in clear, engaging language. Participants receive educational materials-maps, timelines, activity sheets, and recommended readings-that teachers and community groups can reuse. For younger audiences, we incorporate games and drawing tasks that make learning about historic cities in Africa both rigorous and approachable.

Public Workshops can stand alone or accompany major restoration projects, digital exhibitions, or academic partnerships. For example, a workshop series might introduce residents to planned building repair work, gather oral histories to feed into Historical Data Compilation, or train volunteers to help with photographic surveys. This creates a feedback loop where education strengthens projects, and projects provide concrete content for education.

For cultural institutions, schools, and community organizations, partnering with us on Public Workshops offers structured, credible African heritage education without needing in‑house specialists. For donors, supporting this work means investing directly in public understanding, local pride, and the next generation of stewards for historic cities. Each workshop is a step toward communities seeing preservation not as something done to them, but as something they actively lead and sustain.
